Kiki Kaikai Island is the optional island in Rainbow Islands. Not found in the arcade version, it is an homage to the game KiKi KaiKai, which takes place in feudal Japan. Mixing KiKi KaiKai's overhead perspective with the straight-on view of Rainbow Island cab sometimes be disorienting, making it appear as though you can simply walk up the screen, when in fact you must continue to jump or climb rainbows. All of the enemies that appear on this island are naturally enemies that appear in KiKi KaiKai, and the music is from the game as well.

RI Description
Puka Puka RI Puka Puka The Puka Puka are small ghosts that wander down the screen and turn right or left when Sayo passes them. They are common and appear in every stage. Even though they are basic enemies, don't underestimate them; they can spit projectiles in one of eight directions during the later half of the game. Try to shoot them before they have a chance to fire at you.
Kasabe RI Kasabe Kasabes are umbrella shaped enemies that can appear in groups of up to four. They typically appear closed, get close to Sayo-chan, open up, and dance around her in a circle, before closing again, and attempting to spear her on their way out. When they surround Sayo, they stay just outside of the rage of her purification wand, so you must shoot them.
Bake Chouchin RI Bake Chouchin These "ghost lanterns" tend to fly on to the screen in groups of three. They fly rather slowly and cautiously until they feel they are within range of Sayo-chan's attack. At that point, they spit a fireball out in Sayo's direction, and immediately flee the screen. For this reason, they can be difficult to hit. Focus on avoiding the fire that they shoot.
Rin Rin RI Rin Rin These apparitions run around with fox masks attached to their faces. They are quite ninja like, appearing only briefly before stopping and throwing a projectile at you with fair accuracy. They can be defeated with one Ofuda card, so watch them carefully, avoid their projectiles, and shoot them before they have a chance to attack you once again.
Toosenbou RI Toosenbou Looking like a giant tombstone with feet, the Toosenbou wander up and down the screen until they sense that Sayo-chan might be near. Then they immediately rush in her direction and fall to the ground in an attempt to crush her. Once they fall, they crumble and are no longer a threat. They can take a lot of Ofuda talismans to defeat, so you must decide whether to attack them before they run, or trigger them and get out of the way so that they defeat themselves.
Bake Uri RI Bake Uri Appearing as if someone carved a Jack 'O Lantern into a melon, the bake uri always appear from the various wells placed around Japan. They can attack Sayo from twelve different directions around the well whenever she passes through one of those directions. If Sayo manages to stand in place along one of their lines of attack, they will appear continuously. When the do, and if Sayo continues to shoot all of them as they appear, other vegetables such as onions and carrots will appear and drop different Ofuda power-ups when they are destroyed.
Ogei RI Ogei Also known as a Rokurokubi. Every now and then, Sayo will pass by a small hut. These huts are commonly occupied by a kind of demon who disguises itself as a normal woman with the ability to extend its neck extremely far. As Sayo passes the hut, the Rokurokubi will stretch its neck out in an attempt to eat Sayo. Shoot the head several times to keep it from pestering you.
Onibi RI Onibi Onibi are spirits that travel together in a single file formation. One Otama will lead a group around the screen. If Sayo-chan manages to defeat the entire group, the last Otama will drop an item for Sayo to collect. Most commonly, they drop a blue Ofuda power-up. They appear quite frequently in the beginning of the first stage, but they will also appear after Sayo loses a life. They don't intentionally move to collide with Sayo, so they are relatively easy to avoid.
Minojii RI Minojii Minojii are rather large demons that appear like over grown babies. Their temperament isn't much better. They appear on the screens in groups wanting nothing more than Sayo's attention. Of course, if they get a hold of her, they will sit on her and force her to entertain them, causing Sayo to lose a life. Remove them quickly before they have a chance to squash her.

  • Cindy: You really are strong, aren't you. I adore you.
  • Bubby: You flatter me.
  • Cindy: Will you take me out for a date one of these days?
  • Bubby: Oh sure! With pleasure.
  • Bobby: I saw that, you Romeo! Shall I tell Betty?
  • Bubby: No, no, it's not what you think.
  • Cindy: Hmmm...looks like you already have a girlfriend. How distressing! Well, never mind. I will tell you something anyway. They say the diamond rod is in the evil monster's treasure room. The rod will give you a choice of three wishes. So you better choose wisely.
